EOC at Home in Rome
European Olympic Committees meet at EOC headquarters in Rome this week due to ongoing hostilities between Israel and Gaza.
Eilat was the EOC AGM's original host.
Friday and Saturday’s annual general assembly was originally scheduled for Eilat, Israel but was moved away from the Red Sea resort because delegates would have had to travel through Tel Aviv, which is under threat.
Along with the 49 NOCs from Europe, the EOC assembly is expected to draw IOC president Jacques Rogge, who cancelled a trip to Rio de Janeiro last month based on medical advice as he recovers from hip surgery. Also coming to the meeting are representatives of upcoming Olympic Games and the three bid cities for the 2020 Olympics: Istanbul, Madrid and Tokyo.
