The London Paralympic Games Open with a Bang

9/14/2012

London’s Paralympic Games are on track to be the biggest in history, with 11 days of competition including 4,280 athletes from 165 countries, 17 more than the last Paralympics in Beijing.

Professor Stephen Hawking led the Opening Ceremony last night. London’s deep-seated heritage with the Paralympics has further bolstered interest in this year’s games, but whether or not this elevated profile can carry through to Rio is still unclear.

Ed Hula is the editor of "Around the Rings," a specialist magazine covering both the Olympics and Paralympics.
