Golden 25 -- African Leaders #21, #22
IOC Executive Board member, Sam Ramsamy, #21 (ATR)
Sam Ramsamy, #21, IOC Executive Board member #21
As South Africa prepares to launch a much anticipated bid for the 2020 Olympics, Sam Ramsamy will have a hand in making sure the bid gets off to a good start.
The IOC member from South Africa as well as a member of the Executive Board (his term ends in 2011), Ramsamy is the insider the bid will need to gain traction. Ramsamy can seek another term on the EB.
With that EB election set for the IOC Session in July 2011 in Ramsamy’s hometown Durban, he could have an easy time winning another four year term on the board. And with Durban the city most likely to be nominated from South Africa, Ramsamy should be a key emissary for the Olympic bid.
Ramsamy, 72, was elected to the IOC in 1995. In addition to chairing the IOC Sport for All Commission, Ramsamy is a member of the FINA Bureau and head of the press commission for the aquatics federation
