BMW To Partner With USOC
BMW, already the exclusive automotive sponsor of London 2012, will announce a multi-year partnership Monday with the USOC.
Jack Pitney, Vice President of Marketing of BMW of North America; Lisa Baird, the USOC’s Chief Marketing Officer; and Olympic speedskater Apolo Anton Ohno will make the announcement at BMW of Manhattan.
BMW will also announce specific sponsorship plans and how its support will enhance Team USA’s training and performance.
Besides its London sponsorship, BMW is said to be in discussion with the IOC to become the first worldwide Olympic sponsor in the automotive category.
Brazilian Presidential Candidate Briefed on Games
Jose Serra, one of the leading candidates for president of Brazil, is briefed today in Rio de Janeiro on plans for the 2016 Olympics.
He is the second of the leading presidential candidates to receive an Olympic briefing. Last week Green Party candidate Marina Silva was first.
Still to be scheduled is a briefing for Dilma Roussef, former chief of staff for the current president, Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva. Roussef is Lula’s favorite to succeed him; he is stepping down due to a limit of two terms.

Mexico Takes Over Mayaguez Medal Count
Mexico (96) now leads Venezuela (95) and Colombia (88) in total metals won after three days of action at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez.
/> Host Puerto Rico (42), the Dominican Republic (34), Guatemala (12) and El Salvador (11) are the only other nations in double digits.
Colombia remains atop the gold medal count with 38.

Gymnast Paul Hamm Eyes London 2012
2004 Olympic all-around champion Paul Hamm said Tuesday he has quit his job and will train full-time for a return to gymnastics.
Hamm said he hopes to qualify for Team USA and compete in London 2012. The two-time Olympian qualified for the 2008 squad, but a hand injury forced him to withdraw before Beijing.
