London, Ontario Site of 2013 Figure Skating World Championships

The International Skating Union announced the sites of its 2013 championships.

London, Ontario is the site of the figure skating world championships, scheduled for March 10-17.

First on the schedule is the sprint speed skating championships. The World Sprint Speed Skating Championships will take place in Salt Lake City Jan. 26-27.

Hamar, Norway will host the World Allround Speed Skating Championships, Feb. 15-17.

The ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships will be held in Budapest, Hungary March 8-10.

Wrapping up speed skating championships, Sochi will host the World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships, March 14-17.

Pound Inducted into McGill Sports Hall of Fame

Canadian IOC member Richard Pound is now a member of the McGill University Sports Hall of Fame.

The former IOC Vice President and ex-president of the World Anti-Doping Agency was inducted into the hall on Monday.
Pound swam in the 1960 Rome Olympics.

An alumni and former Chancellor of McGill, Pound was one of six people who were inducted into the Hall on Monday.

BOA Performance Director Joins IOC Commission

British Olympic Association director of performance Clive Woodward will serve on the IOC’s newly formed Entourage Commission.

Woodward serves as the representative for all 205 National Olympic Committees.

The commission is responsible for addressing matters relating to coaches, trainers and the athletes’ support team in general. It was formed following the 2009 Olympic Congress.

“I am looking forward to working alongside great Olympians such as Sergey Bubka, to deliver insights and recommendations in the interests of serving the coaches, trainers and support staff of athletes” Woodward said.
