Vazquez Rana, 77, will retire from the IOC in 2012, raising the question of who will succeed him in these influential posts.

As he prepares to seek another term as IOC vice president, Bach remains an important figure in the leadership of the IOC. He also chairs the Juridical Commission that oversees the handling of doping cases and legal issues involving the IOC. Bach, 56, is president of the DOSB – the German National Olympic Committee – as it launches a bid for the 2018 Winter Games in Munich.
