Community Celebration crowd of children cheers on the flame with Vancouver 2010 signs in Sydney, Nova Scotia. (Vancouver 2010)(ATR) The Vancouver 2010 flame travels west through the Canadian province of Nova Scotia on Day 19 of the torch relay.
Yesterday highlights include the torch entering Nova Scotia, the second-smallest province in Canada. The flame advanced through 16 towns and included two canoe / kayak Olympians as torchbearers.
Today, the flame continues its journey through the terrain of Nova Scotia. The torch relay will advance through 10 towns with Port Hawkesbury being the first welcome. The torchbearers will then carry the flame through Port Hastings, Tracadie and Paq’tnkek.
Athletics Olympian Eric Gillis will carry the torch through the town of Antigonish as it progresses onward through New Glasgow, Trenton, Stellarton and Bible Hill.
The torch will take a unique ride on a job cart and will be carried by a jockey, typically used for horse racing to the last stop of the day. Swimming Olympian Gary Macdonald will then carry the torch through Truro where the flame will rest for the evening. Festivities including entertainment, music, dance and a Micmac native drum ceremony will welcome the flame.
Tomorrow the torch will take a unique ride in a canoe by Olympic paddler Andrew Russel.
